Summary: Santhil, who rarely uses his true name, picked up a basic knowledge of enchantment as he grew up in the City of Splendors. He does not always seek treasure like a rogue; he spends months gaining the trust of clerks and noblemen for the prize of having a network which can be exploited for a wider range of gains. Santhil grew his fathers carriage service by employing local unskilled labor, eventually using it to gain eyes and ears on Waterdeep. After a misadventure with a man (who he did know was the father of the late Gespar), Santhil lost money and possibly more, left Waterdeep until he could take on a new persona and start again. This decision lead him on an arduous and painful adventure with his new ally.
Enemies: Despite his unethical lifestyle, Santhil has ties to a group that led to the partial banishment of the Xanathar into southern Waterdeep (and eventually all the way down to Skullport). This was not part of a scheme; he hates them. He also now has the imlicit enemy of the Zhentarim. Santhil now receives a five-figure stipend to be a contact in the fight against the Xanathar. He has a thin scar on his arm from initiation.
“Society produces rogues. Education makes one cleverer than another.” Voltaire
Goals: Santhil seeks to someday have a veil of influence over The Sword Coast and even Faerun. He does not believe he has the divine right to command influence over the minds of others, but if he is wise enough to remain undetected he see such power as a good tool regardless of the moral question. If the gods are indeed worthy judges of character, he will live his life and then let them decide what was or was not right, rather than haughtily acting as though he were worthy of imposing this judgement upon himself or others, thus his neutral alignment.
“The first priest was the fisrt rogue who met the first fool.” -Voltaire
Step one: avoid combat. Your greatest weapon is the enemy’s own mind. Charm person, bluff bluff, bluff, ITS A TRAP. Cast invisibility and mage armor (along with the trusty armored mage ability) for high AC. Use a feint in combat as a move action via improved feint, in order to deny the target of dexterity bonus as it would in melee combat. Then use an enchantment spell for a high DC (20 if all steps are taken). Catch the enemy off guard with feint then cast sleep and cut the sleepers throats. If they close in on you during, use expeditious retreat and high-tail it.
